Our mission
Our mission is to help more people to get outside and enjoy their bikes and to promote multi-day bicycle trips to a wider audience.
Whether we’re touring the Ohio-to-Erie Bike Trail, or high-adventure touring in backcountry West Virginia, when you join us for a multi-day bike adventure our goal is to make riding your bike your only job. We are building upon the momentum in the local bike community by making multi-day cycling accessible to a broader audience, with a more wilderness focus and smaller groups. Part of our vision is to provide our clients with high quality gourmet meals with a mission to locally source all our produce, meat and dairy. Part of increasing the tourism to more rural parts of Ohio and Michigan will increase awareness of our local farm economy, and aim to support local organic farms with this endeavor.
Our lives have been enriched by the wild places we have visited and the physical challenges that we have enjoyed while outside. Many of our most enduring friendships have been created while out on the trail. Although we can never repay the debts for what we have enjoyed, part of our goal is to donate to trail & bike organizations that enhance bike accessibility and safety and to advocate for the protection of wilderness areas that we love.
It goes without saying that we practice
Leave No Trace principles on all of our adventures and hope you will share in our conservation mindset.
How it started
Boombox Bikes started after our first night camping out with our bikes. Coincidentally, Ryan’s nickname (Boombox) was also birthed on that trip. While we spent many years as backpackers and mountain bikers prior to 2018, we had never combined the two sports. Then we got invited on an overnight trip in Michigan with a bunch of crusty bike lovers (
Fargo Sub48 anyone?). Duh, where had we been? It then became obvious that we could combine our love for bikes with our love for off-road adventures, we just needed to strap our gear on our frames and get to it! That brought the freedom to go basically anywhere we wanted on our bikes, and our desire to share that with you!
Ryan is a certified bike mechanic who spends most of his waking hours riding, tinkering, or dreaming about bikes. His past-life was as a PhD geochemist and environmental consultant.
